Gauhati HC Questions Assam Govt Over Cement Firm’s 3,000-Bigha Land Deal

The Gauhati High Court, led by Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi, questioned how a cement company acquired 3,000 bighas of land in Umrangso, Dima Hasao, despite land ceiling laws. Advocate General Debojit Saikia informed the court the land was bought at ₹2 lakh per bigha. The court directed the state to file an affidavit by September 3, 2025. The case, linked to allegations of forced acquisition and intimidation, has raised serious concerns over large-scale land transfers in the ecologically sensitive district.
