Gauhati HC Seeks Reports on Delayed Cases Against MPs, MLAs

The Gauhati High Court expressed concern over decades-old pending cases against current and former MPs and MLAs in Assam. It sought detailed reports from concerned courts on reasons for delays. Director of Prosecution M. Phukan flagged issues like witness absences, summons lapses, and frequent adjournments, and proposed designated courts, strict trial calendars, and more prosecutors. The matter will be reviewed again on September 18, 2025.
