Gauhati High Court Commutes Death Sentences in Kokrajhar Case

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has commuted the death sentences of three men convicted in connection with the rape and murder of two minor girls in Kokrajhar district to life imprisonment. The bench comprising Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar and Justice Arun Dev Choudhury set aside the 2022 death penalty order of the Special Judge (POCSO), Kokrajhar.
The two girls, aged 14 and 16, were found hanging from a tree in Singimari jungle in June 2021. The court ordered the three convicts—Forizul Rahman, Nasibul Ali SK and Muzammel SK—to remain in prison for the remainder of their natural lives, without ordinary remission or commutation.
