Gauhati High Court Criticizes APSC Over CCE 2018 Examination Irregularities

The Gauhati High Court set aside a single bench’s refusal to direct the Assam government to address the cases of six candidates selected for civil services despite doubts over their qualification in the 2018 CCE prelims.

Controversies arose due to erroneous answer keys in the prelims, which led to re-evaluation and inclusion of additional candidates for the mains. The court noted lapses in the Assam Public Service Commission’s (APSC) handling of the process, including granting grace marks on a prorata basis to nine candidates.

The court criticized APSC for failing to conduct the exam fairly and transparently, emphasizing the importance of clear processes in future examinations. It directed APSC to declare results for the six candidates within two weeks, citing principles of justice and equity.
