Gauhati High Court Defers Petition on Kaziranga’s Eco-Sensitive Zones

The Gauhati High Court has kept pending a petition raising concerns over the non-declaration of eco-sensitive zones (ESZ) in Kaziranga National Park and the proliferation of resorts in animal corridors. Filed by Rajeev Bhattacharyya, the petition highlighted that the Assam government has yet to notify the ESZ despite directives from the Supreme Court and the Centre.

The petition also called for a CBI inquiry into the delay and the removal of illegal structures in animal corridors. The court noted a similar case is pending in the Supreme Court and will await further orders.
