Gauhati High Court Hears PIL on Illegal Sand Mining in Beki River

The Gauhati High Court has sought responses from government authorities over a PIL alleging illegal and excessive sand mining in the Beki River, which has reportedly caused severe riverbank erosion and environmental damage.

The court said it would decide later on issuing notice to the contractor accused in the case after authorities submit their replies by July 20, 2026. The petition claims uncontrolled mining has threatened nearby homes, farmland and ecologically sensitive areas, including regions near Manas National Park.
