Gauhati High Court Orders Report on Supreme Court Stray Dog, Cattle Directives

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has directed its Registry to prepare a comprehensive report on compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions concerning stray dogs and cattle. The order was passed by a bench comprising Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar and Justice Arun Dev Choudhury in suo motu writ petition WP(C)(Suo Moto)/2/2026.
The court noted that compliance reports have been submitted by Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, while NHAI has reported measures including identification of cattle-prone highway stretches and 24-hour patrolling. The matter will next be considered on November 11, 2026, when the comprehensive report is expected to be placed before the court.
