Gauhati High Court Seeks Alternative GNB Flyover Proposals from Assam Government
The Gauhati High Court has directed the Assam government to submit alternative plans for the GNB Flyover by November 11. This follows a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by “Concerned Citizens of Guwahati” opposing the felling of century-old trees near Dighalipukhuri for the flyover’s construction. The government is reviewing its plans, with one option excluding the flyover arms near the historic area. The court will hear the case again on November 13. This comes after public protests and an assurance from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to prioritize the protection of the city’s greenery.
