Gauhati High Court Seeks Assam Government Affidavit on Apex Bank Directors’ Tenure

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has directed the Assam government to file a detailed affidavit by November 6, 2026, regarding the constitution of the Board of Directors of the Assam Co-operative Apex Bank Ltd. The order came during a PIL alleging that seven directors had exceeded the permissible limits on consecutive terms.
The petitioners argued that Reserve Bank of India guidelines require a three-year cooling-off period after two consecutive terms. The Assam government assured the court that the rules would be strictly followed in the upcoming bank elections scheduled for October 30, 2026.
