Gaurav Gogoi Flags Illegal Quarrying in Karbi Anglong, Seeks PM’s Intervention

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has written to PM Narendra Modi, highlighting massive illegal stone quarrying in Karbi Anglong’s Panimura range. Gogoi alleged operators, permitted 3 lakh cubic metres over seven years, have extracted over 80 lakh cubic metres, causing ecological damage, community risks, and revenue loss. He linked the case to a wider illegal mining syndicate active in Assam and Meghalaya. Citing past mining deaths and ED probes, Gogoi urged an independent investigation, review of pending inquiries, and accountability of operators, officials, and political patrons. The KAAC CEM earlier said all 33 quarries near Kaziranga had been shut by court order.
