GMC Announces ₹25,000 Spot Fine for Dumping Waste into Drains in Guwahati

Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has warned residents, contractors and commercial establishments against dumping construction debris, garbage and other materials into public drains. The civic body announced that anyone found obstructing the natural flow of water through drains will face a spot fine of ₹25,000 under applicable municipal regulations. GMC stated that such activities contribute to waterlogging, create public health hazards and damage urban infrastructure.
The corporation has urged citizens to dispose of waste responsibly and cooperate in keeping the city’s drainage systems clear. Residents have also been encouraged to report violations through the GMC helpline number 8811007000, following which the Rapid Response Team will take appropriate action. The initiative aims to reduce artificial flooding and promote a cleaner, safer and better-maintained Guwahati.
