GMC Designates 81 Street Vending Zones to Accommodate Over 6,000 Vendors

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) submitted an affidavit to the Gauhati High Court, designating 81 street vending zones for over 6,000 vendors. This decision follows long-pending Public Interest Litigations (PILs). The zones include “free vending,” “mobile food vending,” “time vending,” and “fruit vending” areas. Only vendors registered under the PM SVANidhi scheme are allowed to operate. The GMC will provide basic amenities, and the Town Vending Committee will oversee the phased accommodation process.
