GMC Fails to Implement Slum Redevelopment Under PMAY

Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has failed to implement the In-Situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR) project under PMAY, citing no “notified” slums. This contradicts earlier surveys that identified 164 slums housing 90,000 people. GMC’s denial has blocked redevelopment efforts, leaving thousands without improved housing. Similar past schemes like JNNURM and RAY also saw little progress. Despite detailed surveys and drafted plans, GMC halted projects, shifting blame and neglecting urban poor needs.
