GMC Urges Citizens to Manage Waste Properly Ahead of Monsoon

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has urged residents of Guwahati to dispose of household waste responsibly to prevent urban flooding during the upcoming monsoon.

Officials said plastic bottles and bags dumped in drains often block water flow, leading to waterlogging during heavy rainfall. The civic body is currently conducting a pre-monsoon drive to clean and de-silt drainage channels across the city.

GMC has asked citizens to segregate waste at source, compost wet waste at home, hand over plastic and dry waste to municipal collectors, and avoid burning garbage. Authorities stressed that public cooperation is essential to keep drains clear and reduce monsoon flooding.
