Goalpara Police Destroy Illegal Opium Cultivation Worth ₹2 Crore

Goalpara Police, with district officials, destroyed opium poppy cultivation spread over 10 bighas in West Fetengapara Char. Led by DySP Border, the operation followed legal protocols, seizing illegal items. The estimated value of the destroyed opium is ₹2 crore. Earlier, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the destruction of 170 bighas of poppy worth ₹27 crore. Remote Char areas in Assam remain hotspots for illegal activities, with authorities conducting similar crackdowns in 2021 and 2023.
