Goat Prices Soar in Dhubri Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha

Goat prices in Dhubri have sharply increased ahead of Eid-ul-Azha following appeals by several Muslim organisations to avoid cattle sacrifice during the festival.
Residents said goats usually priced around Rs 7,000 are now selling for nearly Rs 15,000, while larger goats are being quoted at Rs 22,000 to Rs 24,000. Some premium breeds have reportedly crossed Rs 1 lakh.
Buyers and traders have expressed concern over the sudden price hike, saying many middle and lower-income families are struggling to afford sacrificial animals. The rising costs have also affected the local mutton market, with some vendors temporarily stopping sales due to unstable prices.
Locals have urged authorities to monitor the market and prevent unreasonable price inflation ahead of the festival.
