Gogoi Questions Kaziranga ESZ Cut, Wildlife Board Appointments

GUWAHATI: Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi has criticised the state government’s decision to reduce the Eco-Sensitive Zone around Kaziranga National Park, linking the move to concerns over alleged illegal mining activities. He also questioned the appointment of Tuliram Ronghang and Debolal Gorlosa to the State Wildlife Board under the category of “Eminent Conservationist, Ecologist and Environmentalist.”

In a post on X, Gogoi referred to past mining-related controversies involving the two leaders and alleged that the government’s approach towards Kaziranga’s environmental protection was contradictory. He described the decision and appointments as a disregard for public sentiment and raised concerns over the long-term impact on the region’s ecology.
