Gogoi Slams BJP Over Education Crisis Amid Tezpur University Row

Amid protests over the removal of the Tezpur University Vice Chancellor, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday accused the BJP-led government of “destroying” the state’s education sector. Addressing a press meet in Tinsukia, he alleged a steady decline in institutions such as Gauhati and Dibrugarh universities and questioned the appointment of Shambhu Nath Singh, citing past allegations.
The Union Ministry of Education has directed Singh to go on immediate leave and constituted a three-member enquiry panel to probe the allegations. Protests at Tezpur University have continued since mid-September, with the panel asked to submit its report within three months.
