Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Bhutan Visit: Strengthening Assam-Bhutan Ties
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma began a four-day visit to Bhutan to discuss key bilateral issues, including energy, water resources, tourism, healthcare, education, trade, and urban development. Upon arrival at Paro, he received a ceremonial welcome from Bhutanese officials and the Indian Ambassador.
Key discussions include Assam’s role in Bhutan’s ambitious Gelephu Mindfulness City project, which aims to combine sustainability and economic growth, benefiting Northeast India. Sarma also highlighted Assam’s tourism, healthcare, and education opportunities while inviting Bhutan to the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit.
