Hmar Community Protests Custodial Deaths in Cachar District

The Hmar community protested in Hmarkhawlien village, Cachar district, against the custodial deaths of three Hmar youths. The protesters, dressed in black and holding placards, condemned the actions of the Cachar Police, who claimed the youths were militants killed in a gunfight.

The Hmar fraternity alleged the deaths were extra-judicial executions and demanded an independent inquiry involving non-Assam police officers. They also called for an FIR, prosecution of the guilty, and Rs 1 crore compensation for each victim’s family. They urged the Mizoram Chief Secretary to ensure immediate post-mortems.
