Hoolock Gibbons Found in Lesser-Known Kachijan Village, Tinsukia

The rare Hoolock Gibbons, typically found in Dehing Patkai National Park and Barekuri, have also been spotted in Kachijan village, Tinsukia. Despite this, authorities and environmental groups have largely ignored their presence. Locals report ongoing forest destruction in the nearby Kachijan Reserve Forest, allegedly involving forest department staff.

Environmental journalist Papul Gogoi recently spotted three gibbons in the village, marking a significant discovery after months of effort. Currently, six Hoolock Gibbons are known to roam the area.
