Iconic Krishna Cinema Hall in Nagaon Demolished

Nagaon’s historic Krishna cinema hall, once a major centre of Assamese cinema, has been demolished, triggering public disappointment. The hall, built by cultural enthusiasts and known for screening Assamese and Hindi films, struggled financially after the Covid-19 pandemic. Following the death of its owner, Swapan Kumar Bihani, the property was sold to a socio-religious group, which carried out the demolition.
Residents have expressed concern over the loss of cultural heritage, as several other local cinemas have already shut down. Only a few, such as Divyajyoti, remain operational.
