Illegal Mining Near Kaziranga Continues Despite SC Ban: CEC Report

The Central Empowered Committee (CEC) informed the Supreme Court that illegal mining continues in Assam’s Parkup Pahar, near Kaziranga National Park, violating a 2019 SC ban. Despite action reports and suspended leases, mining has intensified since 2021. The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council allegedly issued illegal mining permits without mandatory approvals. The CEC recommended an immediate halt to all mining, a watershed analysis, and strict enforcement by Assam Police and KAAC.
