IMA Assam Announces Strike to Protest Attacks on Doctors

Indian Medical Association IMA

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Assam will hold a four-hour strike on September 28, from 8 am to 12 noon, to protest increasing violence against healthcare professionals. Emergency services will continue to operate.

The strike follows multiple incidents, including attacks in Majuli, Hailakandi, Jorhat, and Mangaldai. In Jorhat, a senior doctor faced misconduct, while in Mangaldai, a junior female doctor was verbally abused.

IMA has expressed deep concern over safety, especially in remote areas where doctors work alone. In Hailakandi, Dr. Amit Sinha was assaulted by a mob in the emergency ward. The attack was captured on CCTV.
