In wake of ragging incidents Assam University imposes ban on ragging

Assam University, Silchar, has issued a circular imposing a complete ban on ragging of any sort inside the campus. The move comes in the wake of the ragging incidents in Dibrugarh University and Silchar Dental College.

“The SC has banned ragging in educational institutes. It is emphasised that ragging besides being a reprehensible act, is now a punishable offence. Hence, to comply with the verdict of the Supreme Court and to maintain a fair environment of teaching and learning inside the campus, the Assam University has also imposed complete ban on ragging of any kind,” a notification issued on Wednesday read.

The central varsity has asked students to fill up an anti-ragging form and give an undertaking that they would adhere to the SC directions in this regard and give a surety for not indulging in ragging.
