India Raises Concern Over China’s Mega Dam on Brahmaputra

India has urged China to ensure that its mega dam project on the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) in Tibet does not harm downstream countries. The Government of India conveyed its concerns to China on December 30, 2024, emphasizing the need for transparency and consultation.

Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh stated that India is closely monitoring developments and taking necessary measures to safeguard downstream interests. Discussions on transborder rivers continue through an expert-level mechanism and diplomatic channels, with plans for an early meeting to resume hydrological data sharing.
