India to Transform Lighthouses into Tourist Attractions and Boost Maritime Safety

The Indian government aims to turn lighthouses into tourism hubs while enhancing maritime safety. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced plans to build lighthouses along the Brahmaputra River and transform India’s 205 coastal lighthouses, some over 100 years old, into tourist centers featuring local culture and cuisine. These developments will create employment opportunities. Lighthouses, now digitized, also play a crucial role in guiding ships, offering weather alerts, and assisting fishermen, significantly improving maritime safety amidst growing trade.
