Jorhat Forest Division Suspends Officer for Inhumane Treatment of Dead Hoolock Gibbon

The Jorhat Forest Division has suspended forester Pankaj Hazarika after he engaged in an inhumane action against a dead Hoolock Gibbon in Mariani. Jorhat District Forest Officer Nandha Kumar issued a notification stating that Hazarika has been suspended with immediate effect until further orders.

Hazarika was stationed at Teteliguri Camp under the Meleng Division of the Holongapar Gibbon Sanctuary. The incident occurred when a rare Hoolock Gibbon, crossing Dhodar Ali Road, was tragically hit by a speeding vehicle and died on the spot.

Upon being informed, a forest officer arrived at the scene. However, he was seen dragging the deceased gibbon along the road on a motorcycle, an act that drew severe criticism and condemnation from the public. This prompted demands for strict action against the officer.
