Jorhat-Majuli Bridge Construction Stalled as Contractor Backs Out

The Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Ltd. (UPSBC Ltd.), responsible for constructing the Jorhat-Majuli bridge over the Brahmaputra, has halted work and expressed its inability to complete the project. In response to a cure notice from Assam PWD (NH Division), UPSBC Ltd. cited payment conflicts with subcontractor BRC, leading to the withdrawal of resources. With only 32% of the bridge completed, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will decide the next steps, including re-awarding the contract. The Rs. 925.47 crore project was expected to finish by 2025.
