KAAC Fails to Respond in Illegal Coal Mining Case

The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has failed to submit its response in the Gauhati High Court regarding measures to curb illegal coal mining in Dima Hasao.

The court, which took suo-motu cognisance, ordered multiple respondents, including the Assam government, to file detailed affidavits after a recent mining mishap trapped 10 miners. The state’s preliminary affidavit was deemed inadequate, and a detailed preventive plan was requested.

Affected residents have been allowed to intervene, and all respondents must submit documents within six weeks before the next hearing.
