Kamrup Prevents 350 Child Marriages, Rescues 10 Trafficked Children in 2025

Kamrup district recorded major gains in child protection in 2025, preventing 350 child marriages and rescuing 10 trafficked children, all girls, through coordinated action by the administration, police and civil society groups.
Data shared by Assam Centre for Rural Development (ACRD)—a partner of Just Rights for Children (JRC)—highlighted timely reporting, community vigilance and swift interventions. Nationwide, JRC partners prevented nearly 1.99 lakh child marriages and rescued over 55,000 trafficked children in 2025.
ACRD Executive Director Prerna Changkakati said sustained rehabilitation, education and welfare support are key to breaking cycles of child marriage and trafficking. The JRC network is also engaging religious leaders to spread awareness that child marriage is illegal, with several institutions in Kamrup displaying prohibition notices.
