Koch Rajbongshi Groups Protest in Tamulpur, Renew Demand for ST Status

Tamulpur, Assam: Koch Rajbongshi organisations staged protests on Thursday, burning effigies of Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Assam Minister Ranoj Pegu while demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the community. Protesters accused the Centre and the Assam government of failing to fulfil their long-standing promise and warned of intensifying the agitation if the issue remains unresolved. The protest follows recent remarks by Jual Oram that the ST status process would take more time, while Ranoj Pegu said the revised proposal has been approved by the Chief Minister and will soon be forwarded to the Centre.
