KWS Seeks Judicial Probe, Strong Protocol After Elephant Deaths on Tracks

The Kaziranga Wildlife Society has expressed shock over the death of eight elephants hit by a Rajdhani Express near Kampur and called for a judicial inquiry into the incident.

The NGO alleged violation of a 2014 Supreme Court of India order on speed limits in elephant corridors and blamed poor coordination between the Railways and the Forest Department.

KWS demanded a foolproof protocol with fixed accountability, real-time alerts to loco pilots, use of modern detection technology and strict speed restrictions to prevent recurring elephant fatalities on railway tracks.
