Lok Sabha Admits Opposition Motion to Remove Speaker Om Birla

The Lok Sabha on Tuesday admitted an Opposition resolution seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla, sparking a heated debate in the House. The motion, moved by Congress MP Mohammad Jawed and supported by several Opposition members, received backing from more than 50 MPs.
Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi initiated the debate, questioning the procedure and the absence of a Deputy Speaker. Some MPs also objected to Jagdambika Pal presiding over the proceedings.
Responding to the concerns, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the House must continue functioning and cannot remain without a presiding authority. The debate on the motion is scheduled for ten hours.
