Man Arrested After Elephant Dies from Illegal Electric Fence

Tinsukia: Forest officials have arrested a local resident, Lehuk Pator, for allegedly installing an illegal electric fence that caused the death of a female wild elephant by electrocution near Balijan in Tinsukia district.

The accused has been booked under the Wildlife Protection Act. Officials said the incident highlights the growing human-elephant conflict in Assam, where over 1,100 people and 246 elephants have died in such conflicts over the past decade.
