Man Dies After Holi-Day Assault in Silchar; Three Detained

A man named Sajan Deb died after being allegedly assaulted during an altercation in Rangpur, Silchar on Holi. He suffered serious head injuries and was admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where he later died on Saturday.

Following a complaint by the victim’s family, three persons have been detained and police have launched an investigation, said Additional SP (Crime) Rajat Pal.

After the news of his death, locals staged a protest on Sunday by placing the body on the Silchar–Imphal National Highway at Rongpur, blocking traffic and demanding strict action. The situation was later brought under control after police held discussions with the protesters and the victim’s family.
