Man Dies from Snake Bite in Assam, Family Alleges Medical Negligence

In a tragic incident, Rajani Das, a 55-year-old man from West Kathalmuri in Assam’s Bajali district, died after being bitten by a venomous snake. Das was bitten on the index finger while fetching eggs from his hen’s nest. Despite being rushed to Pathsala Swahid Madan Routa Hospital within 40 minutes, his family claims he did not receive appropriate treatment.

According to his family, doctors only administered a pain relief injection and monitored his blood pressure and oxygen levels, which were reported as normal. As Das’s condition worsened, the family urged for his transfer to Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Hospital in Barpeta, which occurred only after persistent requests.

Tragically, Das passed away en route to the Barpeta hospital. His family alleges that timely administration of anti-venom at Pathsala Medical could have saved his life, accusing the medical staff of negligence.
