Man Killed by Wild Elephant in Margherita
A man, Ranjit Garh, was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Margherita early Friday morning. The elephant, in search of food, dragged him from his residence. Local police and forest officials recovered the body, and a post-mortem is being arranged.
Efforts to reduce elephant-human conflict continue, including a 16 km solar fence installed near Raimona National Park in August, supported by WWF-India and the Assam Forest Department. Assam, with 5,719 elephants, has the second-highest elephant population in India.
