Manipur Shutdown Over Minors’ Death Disrupts Normal Life

The Manipur government has termed the ongoing five-day shutdown as “unfortunate,” saying it has disrupted daily life across the state. The protest was called after two minors were killed in a suspected mortar blast in Bishnupur district.

Home Minister K. Govindas Singh said essential services, education, farming, and transport have been badly affected, and urged groups like the Meira Paibis to reconsider the shutdown.

Markets, transport, and institutions remained closed across the Imphal Valley, hitting daily wage earners and small businesses hardest. The government assured jobs for the victims’ family and promised justice.

The protests stem from the April 7 blast incident in Bishnupur, which triggered widespread anger and clashes, though mobile internet services have now been restored.
