Massive Fire Guts Nawaibil Bazaar, 17 Shops Destroyed

A major fire broke out at Nawaibil Bazaar in West Karbi Anglong district around 1 am on February 4, destroying about 17 shops and business establishments. Hardware, garment, computer, grocery, stationery shops and small traders suffered heavy losses, severely affecting livelihoods. Police have launched a preliminary inquiry, and a joint damage assessment is underway as the cause remains unknown. The KAAC chief has directed the administration to provide relief and rehabilitation, while locals have demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
