Meghalaya HC Directs Govt to Establish Shelter Homes for Stray Dogs

The Meghalaya High Court has ordered the state government to set up shelter homes for stray dogs in Shillong following a PIL on rising dog attacks. Despite efforts by the Shillong Municipal Board, the issue persists due to the lack of a permanent shelter. The government temporarily assigned an animal shelter in Upper Shillong, but it can house only 20 dogs. The court has now directed authorities to identify land for a permanent facility and upgrade the temporary shelter. A progress report must be submitted before the next hearing on May 8.
