Meghalaya High Court Closes Contempt Proceedings Against Advocates

Shillong: The Meghalaya High Court has closed contempt proceedings against advocates who participated in a judicial work abstention called by the Shillong Bar Association and the Meghalaya High Court Bar Association. The division bench, led by Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew, accepted their unconditional apologies and assurances against participating in similar actions in the future.

The proceedings stemmed from a September 30 resolution calling for a statewide abstention until the state government removed the Advocate General. The court observed that the apologies were sincere and took note of the withdrawal of the protest call on October 9. It discharged the advocates from the proceedings and expressed hope that such incidents would not recur.
