Meghalaya Sanctions ₹700 Cr Water Scheme for Shillong

Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma announced a ₹700 crore water supply project to address Shillong’s acute crisis. The scheme, along with the Wahrynthem project sourcing 33 MLD from the Umngot river, aims to ease shortages. With rainfall down 50%, the state is pursuing resource management and spring rejuvenation. The delayed Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme Phase-III is set for completion by March 2026. Shillong currently faces a 1.4 crore litre daily water deficit.
