Meghalaya Secures ₹199 Crore for Tourism Projects
The Union Finance Ministry has approved ₹199 crore for Meghalaya under the “Special Assistance for Capital Investment” initiative to boost its tourism sector.
The funds will support two major projects: redeveloping Umiam Lake and transforming Mawkhanu in East Khasi Hills, with ₹99.27 crore allocated to each. These initiatives aim to enhance eco-friendly infrastructure, showcase the state’s cultural heritage, and attract global tourists.
Meghalaya emerged as one of the top beneficiaries, securing the second-highest funds among Northeastern states. The projects promise world-class tourism facilities, economic growth, and global recognition for the state’s natural beauty.
