Mother and Son Killed in Elephant Attack at Tea Garden in Tinsukia

A tragic human–elephant conflict claimed the lives of a mother and her son at Brahmajan Tea Garden in Pengeri, Tinsukia district, late Thursday night. A herd of wild elephants reportedly entered the labour lines from the nearby Khatangpani forest around 11:30 pm and broke into a house.

The elephants trampled Budhan Routia (50) and his mother Anita Routia (70) to death inside their home. Both died on the spot due to severe injuries.

The herd also damaged parts of the house and nearby structures, leaving residents terrified. Locals said elephant intrusions have become frequent in the area and urged the Forest Department to take stronger preventive measures and provide compensation to the affected family.
