Nagaon Administration Set for Major Eviction Drive in Lutumari Reserve Forest

The Nagaon district administration is preparing a large eviction drive in the Lutumari Reserve Forest, where about 5,962 bighas of land have been encroached. District Commissioner Devashish Sharma said the State government has decided to act strictly against all encroachments. A three-month notice was given earlier, with an extension for sali paddy harvest. Authorities warned of strong action if people fail to vacate. Sharma clarified the drive is not targeted at any community, noting that even around 100 Assamese families received notices and cooperated. Major encroachments are reported in Chankhola, Kandapar, Jurirpar, Medinipar, and Majgaon.
