Nationwide Price Hike: Essential Medicines to Cost 12% More

Starting today, people across the nation will face a 12% increase in the prices of 800 essential medicines, including painkillers, antibiotics, and anti-infectives. This hike is attributed to a significant rise in the Wholesale Price Index (WPI). The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) revises the prices annually in accordance with the Drugs (Price Control) Order, 2013. Last year saw a 10.7% change in WPI.
