NBMYP Delegation Meets Union Minister, NCBC Chair Over OBC Inclusion of Bishnupriya Manipuri Community
A delegation from the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Yuva Parishad (NBMYP) held a fruitful meeting with Shri Ramdas Athawale, Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, in New Delhi regarding the inclusion of the Bishnupriya Manipuri community in the Central OBC list. The Minister assured the team that he would recommend the matter to the Union Cabinet following the submission of a detailed memorandum on July 30, 2025.
Subsequently, the NBMYP team also met Shri Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, Chairperson of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), on August 1, 2025. They submitted prior recommendations from the Assam government, documents from the NCBC hearing in 2014, the 2021 ABCC survey report, and instances of discharge and appointment cancellation from central government services affecting community members.
After an in-depth discussion, Ahir committed to resolving the issue promptly and expressed his intention to visit Assam within the month. The NBMYP expressed gratitude to Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister Ramdas Athawale, MP Shri Dilip Saikia, BJP-Assam Pradesh, NCBC Chair Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, and ABCC Chair Santanu Gogoi for their support.
The NBMYP delegation included Narendra N Sinha, Pradip Sinha, Debashis Sinha, Dev Kr. Sinha (Rinku), and Dhrubajyoti Sinha.
