Nitin Gadkari Calls for 20% Speeding Relaxation on Expressways

New Delhi: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has instructed authorities not to issue speeding challans for vehicles travelling up to 120 kmph on expressways, suggesting an additional 20% tolerance before imposing penalties. However, the remarks do not constitute an official revision of existing speed limits.
Speaking at a CII event, Gadkari also advocated AI-based traffic monitoring to improve road safety and enforcement. He defended E20 petrol against criticism and highlighted the government’s move to permit up to 100% ethanol fuel in specially designed flex-fuel vehicles.
