No New Covid Cases in Assam; Experts Urge Vigilance, Not Panic
Over 2,200 Covid-19 tests in Assam this year returned negative, despite 90 cases found in 2023 near Dibrugarh. Dr. B. Borkakoty of ICMR-RMRC stated that while the virus continues to mutate, its core has changed very little. A new Omicron subvariant, NB.1.8.1, is driving a global rise in cases but is not more severe or immune-evasive. India currently has 257 active cases. Experts advise vigilance, especially for vulnerable groups, but stress there is no need to panic.
